Dr. Hermann is a private consultant. In 1998, he retired from United Technologies Corporation (UTC), where he was senior vice president, science and technology. Prior to UTC, Hermann served 20 years with the National Security Agency serving becoming deputy director for research and engineering. He later served as principal deputy assistant secretary of defense for communications, command, control and intelligence; assistant secretary of the Air Force for research, development and logistics; and as director of the National Reconnaissance Office. Hermann earned a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master of Science degree, and a doctorate in electrical engineering from Iowa State University.
