
Dr. Mark is a professor of aerospace engineering and engineering mechanics at the University of Texas at Austin. Previously, Mark was named director of defense research and engineering for the Department of Defense; served as chancellor of The University of Texas System; was the director of the National Reconnaissance Office, where he was responsible for managing the U.S. satellite reconnaissance program; and was appointed deputy administrator of NASA, where he supervised the first 14 space shuttle flights and beginnings of the United States’ involvement in the International Space Station program. Mark earned his Ph.D. in physics from MIT.
