George C. Nield, Ph.D.

Associate Administrator for Commercial Space Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration

Dr. Nield is the associate administrator for Commercial Space Transportation at the Federal Aviation Administration. He has more than 30 years of aerospace experience with the Air Force, at NASA, and in private industry. Previously, Nield was the senior scientist for the Advanced Programs Group at Orbital Sciences Corporation. His previous assignments include working as an astronautical engineer, Space and Missile Systems Organization, a flight test engineer, Air Force Flight Test Center, and an assistant professor and research director at the United States Air Force Academy. Nield earned a bachelor’s degree from the USAF Academy, both a Master of Science degree and a doctorate degree in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford University, and a Master of Business Administration degree from George Washington University.
