Mr. Edward C. Aldridge, Jr.
Under Secretary of the Air Force/Secretary of the Air Force and Director of the National Reconnaissance Office, 1981-1988

Mr. Aldridge retired from government service in May 2003 as the under secretary of defense (acquisition, technology, and logistics). Prior to this appointment, Aldridge was president and CEO of The Aerospace Corporation in El Segundo, Calif. Previously, he was president of the McDonnell Douglas Electronic Systems Company; served as the secretary of the Air Force, appointed by President Reagan; and was director of the National Reconnaissance Office. Aldridge earned a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautical engineering from Texas A&M University, and a Master of Science degree in aeronautical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. 

Mr. Bretton Alexander
President, Commercial Spaceflight Federation and Chair, Commercial Space Committee, NASA Advisory Council

Mr. Alexander is president of the Commercial Spaceflight Federation, the industry association of businesses and organizations working to make commercial human spaceflight a reality. Previously, he served as an advisor on space issues at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy under Presidents Clinton and Bush. He also led development and interagency coordination of national policies on space transportation, GPS, and commercial remote sensing. In 2009, he was appointed to the NASA Advisory Council by administrator Charles Bolden. Alexander earned a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering and a master’s degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville.

Lt. Gen. Brian A. Arnold, USAF, (Retired)
Vice President for Space Strategy, Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems, Raytheon Company

General Arnold is vice president and general manager of Space Systems at Raytheon Company’s Space and Airborne Systems business. Prior to joining Raytheon, Arnold served as Commander, Space and Missile Systems Center, Air Force Space Command, Los Angeles Air Force Base. He spent the majority of his military career serving as a pilot in FB-111 and B-52 aircraft; as a squadron commander, wing commander and subunified commander; and as the director of Space and Nuclear Deterrence for the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition. Arnold earned a bachelor’s degree in education from California State University, Hayward, and a master’s degree in administrative education from Pepperdine University, Los Angeles.

Air Commodore Mark Ashwell, UKRAF (Retired)
Vice President International Business Development, DigitalGlobe

Air Cdre Ashwell joined DigitalGlobe as the director of International Business Development within the Defense and Intelligence Business Unit on 5 October 2009. Previously, he was director of Intelligence Capability Strategy and Policy within the Ministry of Defence.  During his Royal Air Force career, Ashwell commanded several major UK Air Defence units.  His achievements include establishing the first collaborative multi intelligence, cross agency, joint narcotics analysis centre focusing on Afghanistan and the reinvigoration of UK Air Defense and Command and Control Systems following the tragic events of September 11, 2001.  Ashwell is a graduate of the University of London and an Ancien of the NATO Defense College. 

William F. Ballhaus, Jr., Ph.D.
Chairman, Space Foundation Board and former President and Chief Executive Officer, The Aerospace Corporation

Dr. Ballhaus is the former president and chief executive officer of The Aerospace Corporation. Under his leadership there were no failures in over 50 launches of Air Force and National Reconnaissance Office satellite systems for which Aerospace had mission success accountability.  Previously, he was a corporate officer and vice president, Engineering and Technology, for Lockheed Martin Corporation.  Ballhaus earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in mechanical engineering, and a doctorate in engineering, from the University of California at Berkeley.

The Honorable Barbara M. Barrett
Secretary, Space Foundation Board of Directors

Ambassador Barrett is president and chief executive officer of Triple Creek Guest Ranch, a Montana hideaway, and serves as a member of the board of the Space Foundation.  Until January 2009, Barrett was U.S. Ambassador to Finland. Previously, she was founding chairman of Valley Bank of Arizona and president and chief executive officer of the American Management Association, the world’s largest provider of management education, leadership training, and business publishing. Barrett earned her bachelor’s, master’s and law degrees from Arizona State University.  Honorary doctorates have been conferred by Arizona State University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Thunderbird School of Global Management, and the University of South Carolina. 

Mr. Steve Bochinger
Director of Institutional Affairs, Euroconsult and Managing Director, Euroconsult North America

Mr. Bochinger is director of institutional affairs, Euroconsult, and managing director, Euroconsult North America. He has been in charge of, and contributed to, a number consulting works for public institutions, military agencies, space agencies, industry companies, and satellite operators in the space and satellite communication markets. In addition, Bochinger participates in Euroconsult’s multiclient market surveys, and manages the report World Prospects for Government Space Markets, a world reference survey on government, civil, and military space programs. Bochinger earned a Masters of Law degree from the Institute of Air and Space Law, McGill University, Montreal, and a Masters of International Law degree, La Sorbonne, Paris.

Maj. Gen. Charles F. Bolden, Jr., USMC (Retired)
Administrator, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)

Mr. Bolden is the 12th administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Nominated by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate, retired Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Charles Frank Bolden, Jr., began his duties on July 17, 2009. As Administrator, he leads the NASA team and manages its resources to advance the agency's missions and goals. Prior to his nomination for the NASA administrator's job, he was employed as the chief executive officer of JACKandPANTHER LLC. His 34-year career with the Marine Corps included 14 years as a member of NASA's Astronaut Office. After joining the office in 1980, he traveled to orbit four times aboard the space shuttle between 1986 and 1994, commanding two of the missions. Bolden's NASA astronaut career included technical assignments as lead astronaut for vehicle test and checkout at the Kennedy Space Center, and assistant deputy administrator at NASA Headquarters.

Mr. Robert J. Butler
Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Cyber and Space Policy

Mr. Butler is deputy assistant secretary of defense for Cyber and Space Policy. He is responsible for providing insightful policy advice and support to the secretary of defense and other senior Department of Defense (DOD) leaders.  Previously, Butler served as an account executive with Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), managing Defense Intelligence business with Combatant Commands and Military Services. He is a retired U. S. Air Force officer. Butler earned a Bachelor of Science degree in computer information systems from Manhattan College, Riverdale, N.Y., and a master’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, Md.

Gen. Bruce A. Carlson, USAF (Retired)
Director, National Reconnaissance Office

General Carlson is appointed as the 17th director of the National Reconnaissance Office. Prior to his appointment, after retiring from the United States Air Force, he served on the Board of Directors of EADS North America.  Previously, Carlson served as commander, Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio; and commander, 8th Air Force, Barksdale AFB, La., and Joint Functional Component Commander for Space and Global Strike, United States Strategic Command, Offutt AFB, Neb. Carlson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and a Master of Arts degree from Webster University, St. Louis, Mo.

Mr. John Celli
President, Space Systems/Loral

As president of Space Systems/Loral (SS/L), Mr. Celli is the company’s top executive and is responsible for its strategic direction.  He has more than 30 years of industry experience and has previously served with the company as chief operating officer, executive vice president and senior vice president of engineering, manufacturing, & test operations. Before joining SS/L, Celli held design and management positions for space products and ground systems at Alenia S.P.A. (Rome, Italy), while supporting academic developments at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Rome. Celli earned a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Rome.

Ms. Ariane E. Cornell
Executive Director, Space Generation Advisory Council

Ms. Cornell is executive director of the Space Generation Advisory Council in support of the United Nations Programme on Space Applications (SGAC).  SGAC is a non-governmental organization of 4,000 members in 90 countries representing advanced students and young space professionals (18-35 year olds) to the United Nations, member states, and space agencies. Previously, Cornell worked in management consulting, first with Accenture, based in San Francisco, and then with Booz Allen Hamilton in Washington, D.C. Cornell earned a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in science, technology, and society, with a focus in management science and engineering, from Stanford University.

Maj. Ann M. Curtis, USAF
Chief, Current/Future Cyber Operations Branch, Directorate of Air, Space and Cyberspace Operations, Headquarters Air Force Space Command

Major Curtis is the chief, Current/Future Cyber Operations Branch, Directorate of Air, Space and Cyberspace Operations, headquarters Air Force Space Command, Peterson AFB, Colo.  She is responsible for resolving issues that cut across the entire Cyber Warfare mission area and preparing recommendations for the Command Lead’s consideration, including oversight and direction to resolve issues affecting Cyber Warfare Capabilities. Previously, she was executive officer to the Director of Requirements, headquarters Air Force Space Command, Peterson AFB. Curtis earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Kean College of New Jersey, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Northcentral University, Prescott, Ariz.

 

Mr. Frank DiBello
President and Chief Executive Officer, Space Florida

Mr. DiBello is president and CEO of Space Florida. In this position, he develops and executes programs designed to retain, grow, and expand aerospace business in Florida. DiBello has more than 40 years of direct aerospace and defense industry-related experience. In addition to his current role, DiBello is the founding partner for Aerospace Capital Partners, is president and CEO of a strategic advisory and investment banking firm, and is president and CEO of Florida’s Aerospace Finance Corporation, established by the Florida legislature. DiBello earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Villanova University.

 

The Honorable Michael B. Donley
Secretary of the Air Force

Secretary Donley is the secretary of the Air Force, Washington, D.C. He is the 22nd Secretary and was confirmed Oct. 2, 2008. He is responsible for the affairs of the Department of the Air Force, including the organizing, training, equipping, and providing for the welfare of its more than 300,000 men and women on active duty, 180,000 members of the Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserve, 160,000 civilians, and their families. He also oversees the Air Force's annual budget of approximately $110 billion. Previously, Donley served as the director of administration and management in the Office of the Secretary of Defense; was a senior vice president at Hicks and Associates, Inc., a subsidiary of Science Applications International Corporation; and was a consultant to the DoD and the State Department on national security matters. Donley earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in international relations from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.

Mr. Martin C. Faga
Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Space and Director of the National Reconnaissance Office, 1989-1993

Mr. Faga is a former president and chief executive officer of The MITRE Corporation. Previously, he served as executive vice president, and was senior vice president and general manager, of MITRE's Center for Integrated Intelligence Systems. Before joining MITRE, Faga served from 1989 until 1993 as assistant secretary of the Air Force for space, where he was responsible for overall supervision of Air Force space matters while serving as director of the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO). Faga earned both a Master and Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa.

Mr. Richard Garriott
Entrepreneur, Famed Video Game Developer, and Private Space Explorer

Mr. Garriott is a space explorer, award-winning computer game developer, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and adventure traveler.  Garriott launched aboard a Russian Soyuz TMA-13 spacecraft to the International Space Station and became the sixth private citizen to fly in Earth’s orbit and the first second-generation American in space. Previously, he established with his brother, Robert, Origin Systems, Inc., a global leader in the entertainment software industry, which was acquired by Electronic Arts (EA). He and his brother also formed Destination Games, which eventually became part of NCsoft, and where he continued to develop innovative new products.

Ms. Lori B. Garver
Deputy Administrator, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)

As deputy administrator, Ms. Garver is NASA's second in command. Previously, she was executive director of the National Space Society, and prior to her nomination as deputy administrator, was a full-time consultant as the president of Capital Space, LLC, and senior advisor for space at the Avascent Group. Other positions at NASA included special assistant to the administrator, senior policy analyst for the Office of Policy and Plans, and associate administrator for the Office of Policy and Plans. Garver earned a bachelor's degree in political science and economics from Colorado College and a master's degree in science, technology and public policy from George Washington University.

Mr. Keith R. Hall
Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Space and Director of the National Reconnaissance Office, 1997-2001

Mr. Hall joined Booz Allen Hamilton after serving as acting director and director of the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), where he was responsible for the acquisition and operation of all U.S. space-based reconnaissance and intelligence systems. In 1997, he was appointed by the President, and confirmed by the Senate, as assistant secretary of the Air Force (Space). Previously, he served in Army intelligence, where he commanded overseas operational intelligence units. Hall received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science, as well as an Honorary Doctorate, from Alfred University in New York.  Hall also earned a master’s degree in public administration from Clark University in Worcester, Mass.

Mr. Roger L. Hall, ST
Deputy Director, Tactical Technology Office, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency

Mr. Hall is deputy director for the Tactical Technology Office, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). He is responsible for helping DARPA develop and execute joint programs that facilitate service delivery of critical and transformational warfighting capability. Previously, Hall retired from the United States Air Force after 25 years active duty, and was an associate with Booz Allen Hamilton. Hall earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from California State University, Hayward; a master’s degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas, Austin; and A.B.D. status, Auburn University Ph.D. program in aerospace engineering.

Lt. Gen. Michael A. Hamel, USAF (Retired)
Senior Vice President, Strategy and Development, Orbital Sciences Corporation

Mr. Hamel is senior vice president, corporate strategy and development, Orbital Science Corporation, responsible for leading strategic initiatives in current space and missile markets and adjacent areas, assessing new technology and product development, and supporting company growth. Previously, Hamel was commander of the Air Force Space Command’s Space and Missile Systems Center and Air Force program executive officer for space. Hamel’s Air Force career included serving as commander of the 14th Air Force “Flying Tigers.” Hamel earned a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy and a master’s degree in business administration from California State University.

Mr. Jeffrey K. Harris
Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Space and Director of the National Reconnaissance Office, 1994-1996

Mr. Harris is vice president and managing director, situational awareness, for Lockheed Martin Corporation.  In this capacity, he leads the Corporation’s efforts in the cross-corporation integration of situational awareness capabilities.  Previously, he served as president of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space and president of Lockheed Martin Special Programs.  Before entering the private sector, Harris served with distinction in senior national leadership positions, including assistant secretary of the Air Force for Space; director, National Reconnaissance Office, and associate executive director of the Community Management Staff. Harris earned a bachelor’s degree in photographic science and instrumentation from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Ambassador Roger G. Harrison, Ph.D.
Director, Eisenhower Center for Space and Defense Studies, United States Air Force Academy

Ambassador Harrison is the Allan & Malcolm Lockheed and Glenn L. Martin Professor in Political Science at the U. S. Air Force Academy, and director of the Eisenhower Center for Space and Defense Studies. Previously, he was a member of the Air Force Academy on three occasions; was a Distinguished Visiting Professor of National Security at George Mason University; a Diplomat in Residence at Colorado College; adjunct professor of business at Colorado State University; was the first dean of the Near-East South Asia Center for Strategic Studies of the National Defense University; the chief executive officer of Specialty Vehicles International; and was appointed by President George H.W. Bush to be the ambassador to Jordan. Harrison earned an undergraduate degree in political science from San Jose State University and a doctorate in government from Claremont Graduate School.

 

Mr. Josh Hartman

Mr. Hartman is a senior fellow with the CSIS Technology and Public Policy Program. His career has focused on development and execution of strategy and programs covering missile defense, cyberspace, intelligence, and space. Previously, he was senior adviser to the under secretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics and director of the Space and Intelligence Capabilities Office (SIO).   Hartman began his career as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. Hartman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in astrophysics from the U.S. Air Force Academy and a Master of Science degree in strategic intelligence from the National Defense Intelligence College.

Senior Fellow, Los Alamos National Laboratory and Chief Scientist, Principal Associate Directorate for Global Security (PADGS)

Colonel Hawkins (USAF Retired) is a Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) senior fellow and chief scientist, Associate Directorate for Global Security. He is a distinguished research fellow with the Institute of Physical Science, McLean, Va., and advisor for the Marshall Institute for Interdisciplinary Research, Huntington, W.Va. Previously, he was director of LANL Department of Defense Programs in the Office of the associate director for Threat Reduction, and served 25 years in the U.S. Air Force. An internationally recognized expert on modern terrorism, Hawkins served on the Presidential Panel on National Infrastructure Protection. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Clemson University.

Maj. Gen. Susan J. Helms, USAF
Director of Plans and Policy, U.S. Strategic Command

Maj. Gen. Susan J. Helms is director of Plans and Policy, U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.  Previously, she was selected by NASA, and became an astronaut.  While she was an Air Force major and a member of the space shuttle Endeavour crew, she became the first U.S. military woman in space. She flew on STS-54, STS-64, STS-78, and STS-101, and served aboard the International Space Station as a member of the Expedition-2 crew.  Helms earned a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautical engineering, U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., and a Master of Science degree in aeronautics/astronautics, Stanford University, Calif.

Mr. Tom Henricks
President, AVIATION WEEK and former NASA Astronaut

Colonel Tom Henricks, USAF (retired) is president of The McGraw-Hill Companies’ AVIATION WEEK.  Previously he held positions with Textron Inc. and The Timken Company.  A NASA astronaut and senior manager from 1985 to 1997, he flew four Space Shuttle missions serving as commander and pilot.  While in the U. S. Air Force he served as a commander, test pilot, and fighter pilot while flying the F-16 and F-4 aircraft.  He is a graduate of the USAF Test Pilot School, Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun), and the U.S. Air Force Academy.  He is an owner/operator of a 1940 Stearman bi-plane.

Robert J. Hermann, Ph.D.
Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Research, Development, and Logistics, and Director of the National Reconnaissance Office, 1979-1981

Dr. Hermann is a private consultant.  In 1998, he retired from United Technologies Corporation (UTC), where he was senior vice president, science and technology. Prior to UTC, Hermann served 20 years with the National Security Agency serving becoming deputy director for research and engineering.  He later served as principal deputy assistant secretary of defense for communications, command, control and intelligence; assistant secretary of the Air Force for research, development and logistics; and as director of the National Reconnaissance Office.  Hermann earned a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master of Science degree, and a doctorate in electrical engineering from Iowa State University.

Mr. Brian Holz
Executive Vice President & Chief Technology Officer, O3B Networks USA, LLC

Mr. Holz is executive vice president and chief technology officer (CTO) of O3b Networks.  As CTO, Holz leads the engineering organization responsible for the implementation and system integration of O3b’s overall network. Previously, he worked for Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corp. as a senior program manager. Holz spent most of his career with Fairchild Space and Orbital Sciences as a spacecraft systems engineer. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering from Virginia Tech and a Master of Science degree in mechanical engineering with an emphasis in space systems and electromechanical control theory from George Washington University.

John K. Hornsby, Ph.D.
General Manager, MDA Geospatial Services

Dr. Hornsby has been with MDA Geospatial Services Inc. (formerly RADARSAT International) since 1991, holding the position of president since 2003. He has been employed in the remote sensing industry for more than 23 years, both in the public and private sectors. His experience includes research and development, consulting, project management, business management and development, and he has held various senior technical, business development and management positions. His doctorate is in geology and remote sensing.

Lt. Gen. Larry D. James, USAF
Commander, Joint Functional Component Command - Space, United States Strategic Command and Commander, 14th Air Force

General James commands the 14th Air Force (Air Forces Strategic), Air Force Space Command, and the Joint Functional Component Command for Space, USSTRATCOM. He leads more than 20,500 personnel responsible for providing missile warning, space superiority, space situational awareness, satellite operations, space launch, and range operations. He directs all USSTRATCOM space forces, providing tailored, responsive, local and global space effects in support of national, USSTRATCOM, and combatant commander objectives. James earned a Bachelor of Science degree in astronautical engineering from the United States Air Force Academy and a Master of Science degree in astronautical engineering from MIT.

 

Mr. Nicholas L. Johnson
Chief Scientist for Orbital Debris, NASA

Mr. Johnson is NASA chief scientist for Orbital Debris at the NASA Johnson Space Center.  He serves as the agency authority in the field of orbital debris, including all aspects of environment definition, present and future, and the operational and design implications of the environment to both manned and robotic space vehicles operating in Earth orbit.  He leads the United States delegation to the Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee and serves as the United States technical expert on orbital debris at the United Nations.

Gen. C. Robert Kehler, USAF
Commander, Air Force Space Command

General Kehler is commander, Air Force Space Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. He is responsible for organizing, equipping, training, and maintaining mission-ready space and cyberspace forces and capabilities for North American Aerospace Defense Command, U.S. Strategic Command, and other combatant commands around the world. Kehler oversees Air Force network operations; manages a global network of satellite command and control, communications, missile warning and space launch facilities; and is responsible for space system development and acquisition. Previously, he served as deputy commander, U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt AFB, Neb.; and was director, national security space integration, Office of the Under Secretary of the Air Force, Washington, D.C. Kehler earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Pennsylvania State University, State College; a Master of Science degree in public administration, University of Oklahoma, Norman; and a Master of Arts degree in national security and strategic studies, Naval War College, Newport, R.I. 

Donald M. Kerr, Ph.D.
Assistant to the Secretary of the Air Force (Intelligence Space Technology) and Director of the National Reconnaissance Office, 2005-2007

Dr. Kerr is a research professor in George Mason University’s Volgenau School of Information Technology and Engineering. Previously, he was confirmed by the Senate on October 4th, 2007, as principal deputy director of national intelligence. Prior to his confirmation, Kerr served as the fifteenth director of the National Reconnaissance Office; as deputy director for science and technology at the Central Intelligence Agency; and was an assistant director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  Kerr earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, a Master of Science degree in microwave electronics, and a Ph.D. in plasma physics and microwave electronics from Cornell University.

Mr. Scott F. Large
Assistant to the Secretary of the Air Force (Intelligence and Space Technology) and Director of the National Reconnaissance Office, 2007-2009

Mr. Large is a senior vice president and strategic advisor for SRA International. Large became the 16th director of the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), and was appointed assistant to the secretary of the Air Force (intelligence space technology) in October 2007. He was appointed DNRO by the secretary of defense with the concurrence of the director of national intelligence. Previously, Large was associate deputy director for science and technology at the CIA; director of the source operations and management directorate of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA); and principal deputy director, NRO. Large earned a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from the University of Central Florida.

Mr. Lon Levin
Treasurer, Space Foundation Board of Directors

Mr. Levin is president of SkySevenVentures, which works with, helps manage, and invests in new technology companies, particularly space-based businesses such as Terrestar Networks, Transformational Space, and Near Earth LLC. In addition, he is the chief executive officer of Sentinel Satellite and senior advisor to the chief executive officer and Board of Directors of Slacker Radio.

Levin is also the cofounder of XM Satellite Radio. Previously, he was a partner in the law firm Gurman, Kurtis, Blask & Freedman. Levin is a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Space Foundation.

Deputy secretary Lynn is the 30th deputy secretary of defense. Previously, Lynn served as senior vice president of Government Operations and Strategy at Raytheon Company; executive vice president of DFI International, a Washington-based management consulting firm; the under secretary of defense; director of program analysis and evaluation in the Office of the Secretary of Defense; liaison to the Senate Armed Services Committee on the staff of Senator Edward Kennedy; a senior fellow at the National Defense University and was on the professional staff of the Institute for Defense Analyses; and as executive director of the Defense Organization Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Hans Mark, Ph.D.

Dr. Mark is a professor of aerospace engineering and engineering mechanics at the University of Texas at Austin. Previously, Mark was named director of defense research and engineering for the Department of Defense; served as chancellor of The University of Texas System; was the director of the National Reconnaissance Office, where he was responsible for managing the U.S. satellite reconnaissance program; and was appointed deputy administrator of NASA, where he supervised the first 14 space shuttle flights and beginnings of the United States’ involvement in the International Space Station program. Mark earned his Ph.D. in physics from MIT.

George C. Nield, Ph.D.

He has more than 30 years of aerospace experience with the Air Force, at NASA, and in private industry. Previously, Nield was the senior scientist for the Advanced Programs Group at Orbital Sciences Corporation. His previous assignments include working as an astronautical engineer, Space and Missile Systems Organization, a flight test engineer, Air Force Flight Test Center, and an assistant professor and research director at the United States Air Force Academy. Nield earned a bachelor’s degree from the USAF Academy, both a Master of Science degree and a doctorate degree in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford University, and a Master of Business Administration degree from George Washington University.

Mr. Leonard S. Nimoy
American actor, film director, poet, musician, and photographer. Famous for playing the character of Spock on the original Star Trek television series and films.

Mr. Nimoy's portrayal of the intense, rational, and emotionally suppressed Vulcan, Spock, on TV’s Star Trek has left an indelible imprint on popular culture, earning him three Emmy nominations. Also a successful movie director, he is responsible for Star Trek III: The Search for Spock; Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, the most successful of the Star Trek films to date; and numerous films outside of the Star Trek series. Three of his films have been ranked among the top box office successes of all time. Aside from his credits as actor and director, Nimoy has recorded ten narrative albums, authored several volumes of poetry, and his black and white art photography is represented in several galleries nationwide. In 2003, Nimoy and his wife, Susan Bay-Nimoy, founded the Nimoy Family Foundation, a philanthropic organization that provides funding for education and arts programs.

Mr. Wang is the director of the Chinese Manned Space Engineering Office (CMSEO).   Under his leadership, CMSEO is primarily charged with the responsibility to jointly operate the engineering and administrative functions of the manned space flight program. CMSEO has eight subdivisions. They encompass astronautics; spacecraft development & operation; launch vehicle development & operation; launch site operations; telemetry, tracking & communications; landing; life support systems and space applications. The high profile product of this undertaking has been the Shenzhou manned space vehicle missions. Notably Shenzhou 3, 5, and 7 were highly successful manned missions that demonstrated increased Chinese proficiency in manned space flight. The next immediate program milestones for Shenzhou are the development, launch and operation of missions to the Tiangong-1 space station.

Paul Weissenberg, Ph.D.

Dr. Weissenberg is the director for Aerospace, GMES, Security and Defence, European Commission. Ms. Wood is managing director and senior equity analyst in Aerospace, Defense and Defense electronics for Morgan Stanley.  She first joined Morgan Stanley as a vice president, rising to executive director, before attaining her current position. 

Ms. Wood previously worked as an analyst at SG Cowen and also served as a presidential appointee on the Commission for the Future of the U.S. Aerospace Industry where she was a co-chair on the Finance/Investment sub-committee for that Commission.  She has been president of the N.Y. Ms. Jaisha J. Wray

Mr. Yang Liwei
First Chinese Taikonaut

Major General Yáng LìwÄ›i is a military pilot and CMSEO astronaut. He was the first man sent into space by China, and his mission, Shenzhou 5, made the PRC the third country to independently send people into space.  Yang was selected as an astronaut candidate in 1998 and was chosen from the final pool of 13 candidates to fly on China's first manned space mission. A former fighter pilot with more than 1350 flight hours, he held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel at the time of his mission.  He was launched into space aboard his Shenzhou 5 spacecraft atop a Long March 2F rocket from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on October 15, 2003.  Yang's craft landed in the grasslands of the Chinese region of Inner Mongolia October 16, 2003, having completed 14 orbits and travelled more than 600,000 km.  In his current position, Yang leads the Chinese astronaut training program at the China Astronaut Training Center in Beijing.
